Leading edge slats and slots

Leading-edge slats's wiki: Slats are aerodynamic surfaces on the leading edge of the wings of fixed-wing aircraft which, when deployed, allow the wing to operate at a higher angle of attack. A higher coefficient of lift is produced as a result of angle of attack and speed, so by deploying slats an aircraft can fly at slower speeds, or take off and land in shorter distances. Leading edge slots - RC Groups > STOL airplanes use leading-edge slats (not slots) for low-speed > lift improvement. The Helio Courier is an example, with newer slatted > aircraft like the Zenair 701 and 801 benefitting from them. > > Dan > I bought the 20 size Druine Turbulent plans by Gordon Whitehead from RCM

Leading-Edge Wing Slats: - Zenith Aircraft Company The leading edge slats allow the aircraft to fly at a high angle of attack (lower speed) by accelerating the air between the slat and the wing (venturi effect). The leading edge slats allow for steep climb angles of up to 30-degrees. For maximum reliability ... Auxiliary Lift Devices - Flight Mechanic Included in the auxiliary lift devices group of flight control surfaces are the wing flaps, spoilers, speed brakes, slats, leading edge flaps, and slots. A slot is a fixed opening, while a slat can be moved to create an opening. Slats move in conjunction with flaps and increase the surface area if the airfoil. Slots and slats are use to re-energise the laminar flow after it has been disturbed.

$\begingroup$ Just wanting to point that flaps can be located both at front and back of the wing (trailing-edge or leading-edge flaps), while slats only exists at the front. Main difference between slats/flaps is not location ,but (as you pointed out) functionality $\endgroup$ – Radu094 Jul 28 '15 at 13:57
